Powered by Jofra Archer’s exceptional all-around performance, Rajasthan Royals secured a convincing 30-run victory over Mumbai Indians to clinch their spot in the IPL playoffs on Sunday. With 16 points following their triumph against MI, the Royals joined Royal Challengers Bengaluru, Gujarat Titans and Sunrisers Hyderabad in completing the playoff quartet. Despite Suryakumar Yadav’s solid 60 and his contributions to two valuable partnerships – a 63-run stand with Will Jacks (33) for the fourth wicket and 48 runs with captain Hardik Pandya (34) for the sixth – Mumbai Indians couldn’t reach the target of 206. They managed only 175 for nine, thanks largely to Archer’s brilliant bowling display (3/17 in 4 overs). RR’s advancement means Punjab Kings and Kolkata Knight Riders have been knocked out of playoff contention. Rajasthan Royals Beat Mumbai Indians to Book Playoff Ticket.

RAJASTHAN ROYALS
While every RR match centers around what the 15-year-old prodigy might deliver, his 24-year-old opening partner Yashasvi Jaiswal stepped up at what he considers his home venue in domestic cricket. He hammered Deepak Chahar for a couple of maximums and added another off Will Jacks, but MI struck back by dismantling the top order quickly. Jaiswal departed while attempting to accelerate against Jacks, mishitting a big stroke to a delivery that spun slightly away from him. Sooryavanshi struggled to find his rhythm and in the fifth over, picked out Naman Dhir at deep point, handing Chahar a breakthrough. AM Ghazanfar then enticed Riyan Parag into a mistimed shot with a flighted delivery, resulting in a catch at long on. RR stumbled to 54/3 after six overs.

The Royals needed their middle order to mount a recovery. Dasun Shanaka and Dhruv Jurel settled into their task and appeared capable of shifting momentum back toward the visiting team during the middle phase. Shanaka launched into action with a towering six over long-on off Ghazanfar in the eighth over and replicated it against Raghu Sharma in the following over. He dispatched one over fine leg off Shardul Thakur as RR reached the midpoint at 94/3. However, against the flow of play, confusion between the batsmen led to Shanaka’s dismissal via run out after a brisk 15-ball 29. Jurel, meanwhile, timed his shots beautifully and kept RR progressing. He plundered 15 runs from Ghazanfar in the 12th over – including a pair of perfectly placed boundaries and a powerful six over square leg. But Corbin Bosch halted his momentum in the next over with a superb inswinging yorker that Jurel failed to negotiate. He departed after a valuable 26-ball 38.
RR tried to think outside the box with their batting approach. Surprisingly, they had Ravindra Jadeja ready as the impact substitute, but Jofra Archer emerged at number five instead.
Archer joined forces with Donovan Ferreira, who represented one of the visitors’ final chances to accelerate in the closing stages. But MI capitalized on this uncertain strategy, utilizing the slower bouncer effectively throughout the evening. Chahar employed it repeatedly and found success with such a delivery when Ferreira picked out the deep mid-wicket fielder with an ambitious swipe in the 16th over.
From this point, Archer dominated with the willow. In the same over where Chahar removed Ferreira, Archer launched a six over long-off. His batting skills shone through in subsequent overs as he struck two additional sixes – off Bosch over square leg and off Shardul over deep mid-wicket. He added another boundary before falling to Shardul, but his explosive 15-ball 32 proved crucial in propelling RR beyond the 200-run milestone.
MUMBAI INDIANS
Archer’s impact wasn’t finished. He returned with the ball and induced an edge from Rohit Sharma for a golden duck in the first over, then dismissed Naman Dhir as well. Ryan Rickelton, who started positively with a four and six off Nandre Burger’s opening over, succumbed to the South African in his second spell. In the final over of the powerplay, Brijesh Sharma rattled Tilak Varma’s off-stump to maintain RR’s advantage.

The India skipper has endured a disappointing campaign, but arrived with confidence after finding his preferred fine leg boundary. He targeted Ravindra Jadeja and Yash Raj Punja for maximums while Will Jacks contributed to sustain the pursuit. Suryakumar launched a Yash Raj delivery into the crowd and enjoyed good fortune when a ball from Jadeja deflected off the top-edge for a boundary to third man.
During the second phase of the chase, Jacks got underneath a flighted ball from Yash Raj and crashed it for a straight six to keep RR alert, with Kumar Sangakkara appearing anxious in a tense dugout. Jacks tried a slog sweep on the following delivery and Dhruv Jurel held an excellent high catch to relieve some pressure on the head coach. Hardik Pandya’s arrival, however, shifted the momentum once moreā¦
He relished the moment, animated and celebrating each stroke that flew from his blade. He began by punishing the over with two massive sixes against Yash Raj. Riyan Parag’s sixth bowling option Dasun Shanaka also suffered, conceding 15 runs in his over as Hardik carved out two boundaries.
After the strategic break, Parag took a calculated risk by reintroducing Archer for his final over in the 16th. Archer, who had been flawless all day, rushed Hardik with a bouncer and had him caught at long on to inject another dramatic moment. He conceded just three runs in the over, leaving MI needing 56 from the final 24 balls. Yash Raj responded magnificently, entrusted with the 17th over where he first had Bosch hitting straight to the square leg fielder and conceded only six runs.
Suryakumar had slowed after his explosive beginning, and despite reaching his fifty, his dismissal in the 18th over essentially decided MI’s fate. MI crawled to 175/9 in their 20 overs, finishing 30 runs short.
