Mumbai Indians (MI) registered their first win of IPL 2025 as they thumped Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR) by eight wickets. MI chased down 117 in only 12.5 overs, with Ryan Rickelton blistering a half-century and Suryakumar Yadav hitting a blistering cameo after MI restricted KKR to a mere 116. MI gave an IPL debut to 23-year-old fast bowler Ashwini Kumar, who took four wickets on his IPL debut, brandishing the wicket of Ajinkya Rahane on his very first ball. KKR were slumped to 45/5 after seven overs, and never recovered. Mumbai Indians rocketed to sixth, while KKR now find themselves stuck to the bottom of the IPL 2025 table. Trent Boult got things started early, knocking Suni Narine’s stumps to take his 30th first over wicket in the IPL, as he got his line right with a swinging full delivery. MI stayed on top with Deepak Chahar picking up a couple of KKR wickets and Ashwani, on his debut, impressing instantaneously, getting KKR captain Ajinkya Rahane with his very first ball. The collapse left KKR reeling to the lowest Power Play score of the season.
Ramandeep Singh and his two sixes offered a brief resistance, before Mitchell Santner completed the innings with 22 balls left, adding gloss to a deep MI bowling performance.
MUMBAI INDIANS-
Rickelton was in no mood to stretch the chase long. He pounced on Narine with a slog-swept six in the seventh over and then belted two more in the 10th to raise his maiden IPL half-century off only 33 deliveries. Russell hit back to account for Will Jacks but Suryakumar Yadav was already in a hurry; he blasted an unbeaten 27 off nine balls to complete the chase with 7.1 overs remaining.
