Chennai Super Kings (CSK) successfully chased down 160 runs with 11 deliveries remaining to beat Mumbai Indians (MI) in an exciting IPL 2026 ‘El Clasico’ encounter in Chennai on Saturday. After winning the toss, MI skipper Hardik Pandya chose to bat first, but CSK’s bowling attack executed brilliantly during the middle and final phases to limit them to 159/7 across 20 overs. Anshul Kamboj claimed three scalps while Noor Ahmad grabbed two wickets. CSK newcomer Ramakrishna Ghosh removed Suryakumar Yadav for his maiden IPL dismissal. In their reply, CSK captain Ruturaj Gaikwad (67*) and expensive recruit Kartik Sharma (54*) both scored half-centuries to secure the victory. This triumph keeps CSK’s playoff chances intact while virtually eliminating MI’s qualification prospects. Ruturaj and Karthik’s Classic Batting Display Helps Defeat Mumbai Indians .

MUMBAI INDIANS-
Anshul Kamboj struck with his second delivery, dismissing the threatening Will Jacks for merely one run. Nevertheless, Dhir and Ryan Rickelton swiftly regrouped, building a 58-run stand in just 32 deliveries to keep MI’s Powerplay on track. Rickelton emerged as the more aggressive batsman, escaping a run-out chance before capitalizing by targeting Mukesh Choudhary and Prashant Veer for five maximums between them. He rushed to a swift 37 from 23 balls before Noor Ahmad delivered the vital breakthrough for the home team on a challenging surface.

At the ten-over mark, MI reached a strong 90/2 thanks to a quick contribution from Suryakumar Yadav [21 from 12 deliveries]. Unfortunately, their momentum faltered afterward. While Dhir anchored one end, he witnessed too many batting partners depart as the innings lost pace. Tilak Varma’s brief stay ended abruptly – his uncomfortable innings concluded when Noor secured his second dismissal. Captain Hardik Pandya then found it difficult to find his rhythm. Dhir reached his fifty in 34 balls, smashed a six immediately after, then lost his wicket in the same over bowled by Overton. The tail-enders could only manage a 150+ total that seemed below par given the circumstances. Following 90/2 after ten overs, MI managed just 69/5 in the remaining period.
CHENNAI SUPER KINGS-
Similar to MI, CSK also lost an early wicket when Sanju Samson was dismissed by Jasprit Bumrah in his opening over. Meanwhile, Gaikwad attacked Trent Boult aggressively – starting the third over with an elegant drive and finishing it with a pull shot and legside flick for four and six additional runs. Krish Bhagat entered the bowling rotation replacing the New Zealand pacer and was immediately punished as Urvil smashed powerful sixes on both sides during an expensive 18-run over. AM Ghazanfar was also greeted with a six by the CSK captain upon entering the attack, though the spinner managed to end the threatening partnership. Urvil dragged a carrom ball onto his stumps, departing after a 24-run innings played at a strike rate of 200. Despite this setback, CSK concluded the Powerplay strongly at 62/2.

Following the end of their 49-run partnership, Gaikwad steadied the innings while Kartik Sharma sought occasional boundaries and sixes. Their collaboration progressed slightly above run-a-ball, doing enough to maintain the required rate. Gaikwad completed a 34-ball fifty early in the 14th over, then collected two quick boundaries – his first since the Powerplay – to accelerate during the chase’s final phase. With 22 runs needed from the last four overs, Kartik targeted the returning Ghazanfar – scoring 4,0,6,0,4,0 – to virtually guarantee victory for his team. He subsequently reached his first fifty, helping CSK overtake Delhi Capitals for sixth position in the table.
