Urvil Patel delivered a spectacular innings that matched record books as Chennai Super Kings triumphed over Lucknow Super Giants by five wickets during their IPL 2026 encounter at Chepauk on Sunday. Pursuing a target of 204, CSK launched brilliantly with Urvil blasting 65 runs from merely 23 deliveries, supported by captain Ruturaj Gaikwad’s contribution of 42. The LSG bowling attack fought back with crucial breakthroughs, pushing the contest to the final over. Nevertheless, Prashant Veer (18*) and Shivam Dube (15*) kept their composure to clinch victory with four deliveries remaining. Previously, although Josh Inglis fired a magnificent 85 from 33 balls, LSG experienced a batting collapse through the middle order and managed only 203/8. This loss sealed LSG’s exit from playoff contention. CSK makes it three wins in a row with Overton-Urvil’s magical performance .

LUCKNOW SUPER GIANTS-
During the opening thirty minutes, Inglis appeared destined for headlines and record books. He raced to fifty in just 17 deliveries, establishing the quickest half-century at Chepauk (before Urvil’s feat). After six overs, he stood at 77* from 25 balls. He demolished loose deliveries straight down the ground, though his remarkable shots behind the stumps stole the show. On at least three occasions, he executed this against the Anshul Kamboj-Mukesh Choudhary combination after neutralizing Akeal Hosein. The sole misfire of that scoop shot came in the 10th over when he edged a catch to Sanju Samson. This triggered a cascade of wickets.

While the partially filled Chepauk seemed somewhat subdued, Inglis energized the atmosphere quickly with his aggressive assault. However, LSG could only struggle thereafter, hampered by a shortage of boundaries and sloppy running between wickets. Brevis’s accurate throw dismissed Markram. Looking back, LSG produced no comparable brilliant moments in the field.
Making just his second appearance this season, Shahbaz remained subdued until the 17th over, crawling to 9 from 10 balls. However, a maximum off Mukesh released his potential. The following over saw him target Overton, collecting 16 runs across four consecutive deliveries to guarantee a 200+ score. This marked only the third occasion LSG achieved a fifty-plus partnership for the seventh wicket or below.
CHENNAI SUPER KINGS-
Unlike Inglis’s bold scooping, CSK’s opening partnership blended conventional technique with clear intent. Through three overs, Samson and Gaikwad matched each other stroke for stroke. Pant gambled by introducing Rathi. The strategy paid off after conceding a boundary and six, with Samson attempting one ambitious shot too many.
Subsequently, Urvil assumed control in spectacular style. Gaikwad contentedly played the supporting role. Urvil struck three consecutive sixes with baseball-style swings against Avesh Khan before demolishing Digvesh Rathi with a 25-run over packed with devastating leg-side boundaries. Prince Yadav and Mohammed Shami, their powerplay weapons, importantly remained wicketless.

CSK appeared overly comfortable admiring Urvil’s destruction, losing focus on their target. When Brevis and Kartik fell in quick succession, CSK still required 35 from 23 balls. This was mainly due to two Rathi overs yielding just eight runs combined. Whether through miscalculation or overconfidence, the brief wobble silenced Chepauk and left their chase uncertain.
Still, LSG’s bowlers failed to maintain pressure, offering the occasional extra or wayward delivery, never pushing the match beyond CSK’s grasp. At the crucial moment, their dropped catches proved costly. During the penultimate over, Impact Player Prashant Veer was spilled twice on back-to-back balls. Two deliveries later, a crucial six shifted momentum once more. Pant gambled again, selecting Markram over Shahbaz for the 20th over, but Shivam Dube’s pair of sixes finished the job.
