SCOTLAND-
The hosts began strongly. Ollie Hairs scored 12 out of 18 runs by the 2.2 overs mark before Aaron Hardie dismissed him. Brandon McMullen and George Munsey kept up the pace. They ensured Scotland crossed 50 well within powerplay overs. Even though Munsey was out for 25 runs, Scotland managed to score 56 runs for the loss of 2 wickets during powerplay.
Scotland’s middle-order did not provide any aid to McMullen. The No.3 batter got his second fifty in a row but had no support from his teammates. McMullen hit fifty off just 32 balls but kept losing partners at the other end of the pitch. Finally dismissed for 56 runs off 39 balls due to Travis Head’s amazing catch from Marcus Stoinis’ bowling.
Mark Watt scored some crucial runs towards the end, but the Aussies’ disciplined bowling meant they only needed to chase 150 runs to win the game.
AUSTRALIA-
With just 149 to defend, the home side started strong with the ball, giving away only 5 runs in the first two overs & dismissing Jake Fraser-McGurk for a duck. Although Mitchell Marsh injected some momentum with three boundaries in an over, Scotland celebrated the wicket of Travis Head at the other end. Australia found themselves rattled at 19/2 after four overs.
Green and Marsh each smashed a six in the final powerplay over to push up the score, then continued to counterpunch and regain momentum. Both batters went on a boundary-hitting spree. Even though Marsh fell near halfway, Australia kept marching forward. Green kept hitting sixes, and Tim David got back-to-back boundaries off Jack Jarvis. Green topped off an excellent outing with a half-century as Australia wrapped up things with almost four over remaining.
Brief scores:
Scotland 149/9 in 20 overs (Brandon McMullen 56; Cameron Green 3/35) lost to Australia 153/4 in 16.1 overs (Cameron Green 62*, Mitchell Marsh 31; Bradley Currie 2/20) by six wickets.
