ENGLAND-
After a good start by Root he was subsequently cleaned up by Wiaan Mulder and Maharaj coaxed a charge down from Liam Livingstone which left him stumped. Jos Buttler and Jofra Archer put together a semblance of a partnership in putting on 42 but that hardly availed as England’s efforts. The latter was dismissed by Mulder and he ended with 3-25 in 7.2 overs as England crumbled in the 39th. Any flicker of hope that Archer ignited with his renaissance spell was brutally extinguished by the South African batters, who finished off the chase with 125 balls remaining.
SOUTH AFRICA-
Jos Buttler pressed his buttons, trying everything at this pair. England’s other best bowler, Adil Rashid, tasked with the job to break the partnership skittishly from both ends. Buttler even returned Archer for his eighth over, in only the 21st of the innings. The South African then back foot punched the quick twice to bring up his first 50 for the tournament off 41 deliveries. Van der Dussen moved onto his fifty by middle of the chase. Rashid broke the partnership with the wicket of Klaasen with only six to get, but Miller finished the chase with straight six in the 30th over.
