Priyansh Arya, Prabhsimran Singh, and captain Shreyas Iyer struck impressive half-centuries as Punjab Kings triumphed over Sunrisers Hyderabad by six wickets in Saturday’s IPL encounter. Despite Abhishek Sharma’s explosive 74 from just 28 deliveries propelling SRH to 219 for six, it proved insufficient as PBKS chased down the target with seven deliveries remaining. Priyansh (57) and Prabhsimran (51) established a commanding 99-run opening partnership before Shivang Kumar (3/33) broke through to claim both wickets. Iyer then sealed the victory with a magnificent 33-ball 69 as PBKS reached 223 for 4. Earlier, Abhishek’s explosive innings featuring five boundaries and eight maximums was built through a 120-run stand with opening partner Travis Head (38). Punjab Kings Batters Were Unstoppable In Chasing and Remained Unbeaten.

SUNRISERS HYDERABAD
Abhishek Sharma and Travis Head formed a devastating combination that tells the complete story. Playing on familiar territory, Abhishek looked unstoppable as he mercilessly attacked Arshdeep Singh, who lost his rhythm and bowled six extras in his opening two overs. The third over yielded 24 runs as Abhishek dismantled his Punjab and national teammate, before launching Vijaykumar Vyshak for four consecutive sixes in the fifth over. His 18-delivery half-century – the first in IPL 2026 – reignited his partnership with the same team he demolished for 141 runs last season. Head maintained his aggressive approach while supporting brilliantly, helping SRH plunder 105 runs during the Powerplay.

Enter Shashank Singh as an unexpected game-changer, delivering figures of 2/20 from three overs. He initially stemmed the run flow with a economical seventh over before striking twice in the ninth to dismiss both Head and Abhishek. Ishan Kishan and Heinrich Klaasen required time to settle as only 46 runs emerged from the six overs following the Powerplay. Kishan departed via a casual one-handed grab from Marco Jansen, while Klaasen struggled to accelerate despite attempting numerous aggressive shots. PBKS bowlers switched to containment mode, with seamers targeting yorkers and executing them effectively to restrict the total to 219.
PUNJAB KINGS
Their strategy seemed clear: match whatever Abhishek and Head accomplished with Priyansh Arya and Prabhsimran Singh leading the charge. Kishan’s decision to bowl left-arm spinner Harsh Dubey to Arya in the opening over backfired spectacularly as an 18-run over – plus a wasted review – signaled a disastrous beginning for Sunrisers. Prabhsimran advanced down the pitch and dictated terms, launching balls straight before Arya targeted Harshal Patel for 21 runs in the fifth over. Though they fell short of SRH’s Powerplay total of 105, their 93/0 effectively put the match beyond Sunrisers’ grasp, with Arya completing his half-century in just 16 balls.

Shivang Kumar provided hope for Sunrisers, removing Arya immediately after the Powerplay before claiming Prabhsimran and Cooper Connolly’s wickets as well. However, the required rate never troubled Kings, especially with captain Shreyas Iyer at the crease. He intelligently negotiated Shivang’s bowling, who concluded with 3-33, while targeting Nitish Kumar Reddy and Harshal around those careful periods. After smashing two sixes and a boundary off Harshal in the 15th over, Kings required merely 41 from the final five overs. Subsequently, Eshan Malinga endured the punishment as he leaked 18 runs. Shreyas achieved a brilliant fifty and appropriately, Shashank provided the finishing flourish, having earlier orchestrated Sunrisers’ batting collapse with his bowling.
Brief scores:
Sunrisers Hyderabad 219/6 in 20 overs [Abhishek Sharma 74 (28), Travis Head 38 (23), Heinrich Klaasen 39 (33); Shashank Singh 2-20] lost to Punjab Kings 223/4 in 18.5 overs [Shreyas Iyer 69* (33), Priyansh Arya 57 (20), Prabhsimran Singh 51 (25); Shivang Kumar 3-33] by 6 wickets.
