NZ Vs AUS, 1ST T20I, MOUNT MAUNGANUI , 2025 HIGHLIGHTS : Marsh’s Superclass Batting Handled An Easy Victory Against New Zealand To lead T20 Series For Australia.

Mitchell Marsh hit 85 from 43 balls as Australia defeated New Zealand in the opening T20I at Bay Oval. Australia had won the toss and opted to bat first, New Zealand quickly in dire straights at 6/3. But they were bailed out by the fantastic century from Tim Robinson (106 not out off 66 balls) and managed an imposing 181 for six in their stipulated 20 overs. Robinson’s exploits came to no avail as Marsh powered Australia to victory with 21 balls to spare. The victory has taken Australia into a 1-0 lead in the three-match T20I series. NEW ZEALAND-

After winning the toss and choosing to send New Zealand in, Australia had its neighbor on the back foot early. Tim Seifert was caught chipping to mid-off in the first over and then Ben Dwarshius had Devon Conway and Mark Chapman out off consecutive balls in the second to leave New Zealand 6-3. Robinson and Daryl Mitchell repaired the damage from the early collapse in the PowerPlay and launched a counter-attack.

Having taken a while to get started, Robinson threw the bat by hitting Stoinis for a six and a four in the sixth over before doing so again in the next Xavier Bartlett over. He then brought up the fifty off just 31 balls in the ninth over and his stand of 67 runs with Mitchell meant that his side was back on track at 93/3 after ten overs.

The partnership was ended when Mitchell holed out to long-on for 18 in the 11th over and Australia started to get a toe-hold back in the match. The run rate was down, but Australia were extremely ragged in the field and gave Robinson as many as four lives. He was dropped by Travis Head in the 13th over and escaped a missed stumping on 15. He had twice been dropped with successive deliveries in the 17th, first again by Head and then Tim David. Robinson took the opportunities he was given and brought up his debut T20I hundred off the fifth ball of the final over. Although they lost a couple of wickets to run-outs, New Zealand ended well having Robinson finished the innings off with a six from the final ball; 181/6.

AUSTRALIA-

Australia, in reply, got off to a flying start with Marsh hitting two boundaries each in the opening two overs and six in the third. There were plenty of limits as Head tagged along by hitting three fours in the fourth over. Australia dashed to fifty in only the fifth over before the opening partnership was ended in the sixth when Matt Henry bounced out Head.

That, though did nothing to stop the deluge of runs. It didn’t take long for Matt Short to get his innings going, with a four and a six. Marsh raised his half-century by hitting successive sixes off Zakary Foulkes in the ninth over as Australia comfortably outpaced the asking rate. There was little to lift New Zealand’s spirits as Australia rattled in the goals. The dismissals of Short in the 12th over and Marsh three overs later were too little too late as Australia coasted to victory.

Brief Scores:

New Zealand 181 for six in 20 overs (Tim Robinson 106\*, Daryl Mitchell 34; Ben Dwarshius two-fourty) lost to Australia 185 for four in 16.3 overs (Mitchell Marsh eighty-five, Travis Head thirty-one; Matt Henry two-forty-three) by means of six wickets.
