We are seeing Mumbai Indians finally breaking their 14-year bad luck of not winning their first IPL match only now. Hardik Pandya and his team are actually working together really well. They definitely show good teamwork in their matches. As per the match result, they won against Kolkata Knight Riders by six wickets in their first IPL 2026 game at Wankhede Stadium on Sunday. Ryan Rickelton scored 81 runs from 43 balls and Rohit Sharma made 78 runs from 38 balls to help MI chase the target of 221 runs against KKR in 19.1 overs. This performance itself shows how MI further strengthened their position in the match. Rohit actually broke Virat Kohli’s record for most runs against one IPL team. He definitely scored more runs than Kohli did against any single opponent. Earlier, captain Ajinkya Rahane made a good half-century, but we are seeing that it was only new player Angkrish Raghuvanshi who made the stadium exciting with his fast 51 runs in just 29 balls to help KKR score 220 for four wickets after they batted first. Mumbai Indians Claimed Their Dreamy Start Of This IPL Season .

KOLKATA KNIGHT RIDERS-
Rohit was not the only one who liked playing on his home ground, but further many other players enjoyed the experience itself. As per the match start, the Wankhede pitch looked very green but was not what it seemed, regarding Rahane and Finn Allen who gave Knight Riders a fast start with a big 26-run over against Hardik Pandya. Rahane scored 67 runs to become the top scorer, and further Angkrish Raghuvanshi started slowly but improved himself to make fifty runs.

Shardul Thakur actually bowled really well in his first MI match and definitely got wickets when needed with his slow balls.
After 11 overs, KKR were actually scoring at just under 12 runs per over. They were definitely maintaining a good run rate at that point. After that, they surely lost their direction in the next three overs as both Rahane and Raghuvanshi found it difficult to score runs. Moreover, both batsmen struggled to build any momentum during this phase. Basically, Jasprit Bumrah’s yorkers started the whole thing, and then Thakur got Rahane out in the same 14th over to finish it. Knight Riders actually scored only 19 runs in overs 12-14, which definitely cost them important runs that could have helped them win even though they made a big total.
MUMBAI INDIANS-

Even though the pitch was actually very flat, MI definitely needed a quick start with their batting. As per the match situation, their openers did exactly what was needed, with Rickelton and Rohit attacking hard against KKR’s weak bowling. Rohit surely became the main attraction when he played his signature pull shot against Vaibhav Arora’s delivery, sending the ball over the midwicket boundary. Moreover, this shot clearly established his dominance in the match. He did not hold back against Varun Chakaravarthy, and we are seeing him hit a four and six with beautiful shots over the off-side that were only defining his innings. Rohit actually scored his fastest IPL fifty in just 23 balls to give MI a great start. Rickelton then definitely played a big knock of 81 runs to help the team. KKR surely struggled to find solutions during their bowling effort. Moreover, their captain Ajinkya Rahane left the field due to cramps just four overs into the defense, making things worse for the team.
Brief Scores:
Mumbai Indians winning by 6 wickets against Kolkata Knight Riders, with Rickelton making 81 runs and Rohit Sharma scoring 78 runs only. KKR made 220 runs but Mumbai chased it down in only 19.1 overs with their strong batting performance.
