The outstanding partnership between Shubman Gill and Jos Buttler propelled Gujarat Titans to a comfortable seven-wicket victory against Lucknow Super Giants in Sunday’s IPL 2026 encounter at Lucknow. While pursuing a target of 165, GT suffered an early setback when Sai Sudharsan departed for 15. Nevertheless, Buttler (60) and Gill (56) steadied the ship for GT. Subsequently, Rahul Tewatia (10*) and Washington Sundar (21*) guided GT home with eight deliveries remaining. Previously, Prasidh Krishna produced an outstanding bowling performance as Gujarat Titans limited Lucknow Super Giants to 164/8 across their 20 overs. Aiden Markram (30) emerged as LSG’s highest scorer. The power hitters failed to capitalize on promising beginnings, with Rishabh Pant (18), Nicholas Pooran (19), Abdul Samad (18) and Mukul Choudhary (18) all recording disappointing scores. LUCKNOW SUPER GIANTS-
The main issue was that their leading batsmen couldn’t build on promising foundations. Aiden Markram (30 off 21) and Mitch Marsh (11 off 4) made explosive beginnings; captain Rishabh Pant also started aggressively, striking several boundaries and one maximum during his characteristic 11-ball 18. Yet all three departed after finding their rhythm, each falling to ambitious strokes. Nicholas Pooran struggled for timing, as did Abdul Samad. The side relied heavily on late-order contributions to reach a competitive 160+ score.

Not entirely. While Mukul managed a six and boundary during his brief innings, it represented more of a collective effort from LSG’s tail-enders today. They battled until the final delivery, accumulating 44 runs across the closing three overs to establish a competitive total.
GUJARAT TITANS-
Shubman Gill’s approach was initially cautious. Once comfortable at the crease, the GT captain targeted Mohammed Shami for his costliest over in IPL 2026 so far. A blind lofted shot over the boundary, an elegant cover drive, and two additional boundaries through the leg-side transformed it into a 20-run fifth over during the Powerplay. His innings concluded shortly after reaching a 34-ball fifty, but the 84-run partnership with Buttler positioned GT favorably.

He maintained his excellent form with another half-century this season. After receiving a reprieve on 12 when Pant couldn’t hold a difficult catch, he never faltered. Buttler consistently found boundaries during the middle phase, preventing the LSG spinners from gaining control. He then attacked George Linde with three consecutive boundaries, surpassing 14,000 T20 runs with the second stroke, before completing a 29-ball fifty – his 100th in T20 cricket.
A vulnerable middle-order had worried them early in the tournament, and Titans did lose both established half-centurions within six deliveries when they still required 30 from 26 balls. Nevertheless, Washington Sundar and Rahul Tewatia successfully steered their team to victory with an unbroken 30-run stand in merely 18 deliveries, securing back-to-back victories for their franchise.
Brief scores:
Lucknow Super Giants 164/8 in 20 overs [Aiden Markram 30 (21); Prasidh Krishna 4-28, Ashok Sharma 2-32] lost to Gujarat Titans 165/3 in 18.4 overs [Jos Buttler 60 (37), Shubman Gill 56 (40)] by 7 wickets.
