This was further Siraj’s return match to the format. Arshdeep Singh dismissed Monank Patel on the first ball of the third over, as USA’s top-order batsmen found it difficult to handle India’s fuller deliveries itself. This further exposed USA’s struggle against the early bowling attack. We are seeing Saiteja Mukkamalla getting out as Siraj’s second wicket in the fourth over only, when he hit the ball straight to Varun CV at mid-wicket. Milind Kumar and Sanjay Krishnamurthi surely stopped the fall of wickets, but USA still reached only 31/3 in 6 overs. Moreover, they needed to score quickly to improve their position in the match.
But actually, even though this pair definitely fought hard, it did not happen. Basically they scored 58 runs from 52 balls and kept the same partnership going until the 12th over. Varun finally found a way to take his first T20I World Cup wicket in four matches only, as he got Milind stumped.
