SUNRISERS HYDERABAD-

Pat Cummins, the first captain this season to bat first after winning the toss, saw his high-flyers top-order cut down in no time by Mitchell Starc. Abhishek Sharma was run out following a mix-up between the openers before Mitchell Starc got Ishan Kishan, Nitish Reddy and Travis Head by the fifth over. Thus, with IPL 2024 at an end, Starc has 8 wickets in Power Play in 11 overs against SRH. SRH should have been five down well before the end of the Power Play, but Abishek Porel fluffed a catch to spare Aniket Verma.

ANIKET VERMAFlexing his muscles against DC’s spinners, Aniket started by hammering Vipraj Nigam for a six and a four in the seventh over. In the following over he tonked Axar for a couple of sixes and also went after Mohit Sharma. Heinrich Klaasen then pounced on Kuldeep Yadav with a straight six to continue attacking on the fifth-wicket stand. They had taken the side past three figures till midway stage, but DC clawed back through an impressive catch from Vipraj Nigam which sent the South African back. Then Kuldeep and Axar bowled three exceptional overs, leaking just eight runs in it. Aniket in the meantime reached his first IPL fifty and then caught-up with Axar once again in a 15th over costing 17 runs.

Riding his luck, Aniket perished in the 16th over in pursuit of another big one, members of the opposition appeal for a 41-ball 74. Starc then returned to mop up the innings in the 19th over by removing Harshal Patel and Wiaan Mulder. As SRH only put on 163, the Aussie speed demon walked away with 5-35, his first ever fifer in T20 cricket.

DELHI CAPITALS-

FAF DU PLESISOnly against all four of the pace options Cummins threw at them were Faf du Plessis and Jake Fraser-McGurk on with the start. Harshal Patel bowled a decent first over but Cummins himself was butchered for 13 runs. Shami was on song but had one poor ball in the second over that allowed DC to stamp their authority early in the chase.

SRH’s young leggie Zeeshan Ansari took three wickets, but that did not change the alignment of the process as the hosts galloped towards the target in a normal line through different batters. Du Plessis reached a 26-ball 50, while McGurk also batted with urgency before he was out to a spinner. By halfway, DC had 96 runs on the board to be well ahead of the asking rate. KL Rahul started his DC innings on a high as he hit Shami for two fours and a six in the 11th over. Abishek Porel joined him, and the run-making continued unabated, Ansari getting hit for a four and a six in the 14th over. DC reached 150/3 at the end of 15 overs, needing just 13 more at the death. The emphatic win was completed in the 16th over when Porel went after Wiaan Mulder.
