KOLKATA KNIGHT RIDERS
During the second-last delivery of the seventh over, Finn Allen struck the ball straight to Siraj positioned at long on. What should have been a straightforward catch turned into a costly blunder as Siraj failed to hold onto it. While the tournament has witnessed numerous fielding errors, this particular miss proved catastrophically expensive considering the destruction that followed. From the subsequent nine deliveries, Allen unleashed chaos with 6 6 4 1 6 1 . 6 6. The opener accumulated 60 runs from just 17 balls following that dropped opportunity, establishing the foundation for KKR’s enormous score.

This wasn’t the match’s only fielding lapse. Jason Holder’s diving attempt to dismiss Allen at extra cover during the third over’s final ball proved unsuccessful. Cameron Green at 23 and Angkrish Raghuvanshi at 52 also benefited from dropped chances.
The New Zealand batsman, having struggled through three disappointing performances at this ground earlier in the season, rediscovered the form that had powered him to a 33-ball hundred at Eden Gardens months earlier. Kagiso Rabada and Mohammed Siraj initially contained him through the opening three overs, but post-Powerplay, he systematically dismantled GT’s bowling attack. Even during the initial phase, he dispatched Rabada for two sixes, though the real devastation commenced in the eighth over when he welcomed Rashid Khan with back-to-back maximums. His assault continued against Holder, Sai Kishore and Arshad Khan, with the latter suffering three consecutive sixes. The strokeplay was merciless and precise on a batting-friendly pitch. Bowlers found no sanctuary, and with fielders providing inadequate assistance, GT’s situation deteriorated rapidly.
KKR maintained their aggressive approach. Raghuvanshi assumed command, employing effective sweeps against Rashid. Green, following a subdued beginning, demolished Sai Kishore’s bowling, clearing his front leg to launch two sixes and a four within four deliveries. While Holder managed a couple of economical overs, Green and Raghuvanshi remained unwavering in their intentions. Rashid endured Green’s onslaught, while Raghuvanshi unleashed three sixes and a boundary against Siraj. Both players reached their fifties, with Green achieving the milestone through a boundary in the closing over.
GUJARAT TITANS
On the third over’s concluding delivery, Sai Sudharsan missed his pull shot and received a painful blow to his elbow from Kartik Tyagi. The injured batsman departed the field. Previously in that over, he had struck two fours and a six, appearing poised to seize control.
The eighth to thirteenth overs became the crucial turning point. During the identical phase where KKR had plundered 90 runs, GT managed merely 61. Varun Chakaravarthy deserves primary credit, conceding just 22 runs across three overs during this stretch, restricting GT’s run rate. Although Buttler discovered boundaries and Gill launched two sixes off Anukul Roy, the asking rate climbed dramatically during this period.
With the required rate exceeding 16 per over and nine wickets remaining, Gill elevated his game. Midway through the fourteenth over, Gill requested a heavier bat and immediately attacked Chakaravarthy, concluding his otherwise excellent spell with 4.6.4.

He utilized his footwork effectively against spin, while Buttler supported his efforts by targeting Kartik Tyagi as their partnership reached 128 – GT’s highest against KKR. With pressure shifting toward the hosts for the first time, Narine returned in the seventeenth over. Bowling around the wicket to Gill, the strategy succeeded. After deceiving him with a straighter delivery, he dismissed Gill at deep square leg. This proved decisive as Narine conceded only 5 runs.
Sudharsan’s return rekindled GT’s hopes with a six and four off Tyagi. A delivery escaped the pacer’s grip, but the no-ball appeal was overturned upon review. The visitors accumulated 21 runs in that over but still required 45 from the final two overs.
KKR needed just one restrictive over, delivered by Saurabh Dubey through intelligent variations. Sudharsan was repeatedly outfoxed, and Buttler also departed before the over concluded. Sudharsan completed his fifty with a six in the final over, but victory was already beyond reach.
