Gujarat Titans (GT) secured an impressive 8-wicket victory over Chennai Super Kings (CSK) in their IPL 2026 encounter in Chennai on Sunday, powered by opener Sai Sudharsan’s magnificent 87 from 46 deliveries. GT skipper Shubman Gill won the coin toss and chose to field first, a decision that proved wise as Kagiso Rabada and Mohammed Siraj dominated the powerplay, reducing CSK to early trouble with three quick dismissals. CSK captain Ruturaj Gaikwad managed his maiden fifty of the campaign, anchoring the innings through all 20 overs to help his team reach 158/7. Chasing the target, Gill provided a flying start before Sudharsan and Buttler steered GT to a convincing victory. Rabada and Sudharsan’s Performance Results in CSK Another Home Loss .

CHENNAI SUPER KINGS-
After winning the toss and electing to bowl, Gujarat Titans dominated the opening six overs with precise length bowling. Every single one of the 36 deliveries avoided the fuller length. Among the 24 balls on a good length, one produced a dismissal; the dozen short-pitched deliveries claimed two additional scalps. Kagiso Rabada maintained his excellent form, forcing the dangerous Sanju Samson to nick one behind before welcoming Urvil Patel with a blistering 149kph bouncer that reared up alarmingly as the batsman advanced, resulting in a miscued top-edge.

This left Chennai Super Kings hurriedly introducing Sarfaraz Khan as their Impact Substitute, but he departed first delivery courtesy of a Mohammed Siraj bouncer. The home team found themselves struggling at 28 for 3 after the powerplay.
Chennai Super Kings’ troubles deepened to 37 for 4 when Dewald Brevis mistimed Manav Suthar’s delivery, and at the ten-over mark they were crawling at 43 for 4. Ruturaj Gaikwad was enduring a frustrating 35-delivery boundary drought – the lengthiest such barren run by any batsman this season.

The turnaround finally materialized in the 13th over. Following a painful blow to his arm, Gaikwad retaliated by dispatching consecutive sixes off Arshad Khan, reviving both his own innings and his team’s fortunes. This aggressive response triggered a dramatic late acceleration as CSK accumulated 83 runs during the closing six overs. Gujarat Titans offered minimal resistance, delivering an error-prone display in the field. Shivam Dube survived three dropped chances and despite scoring just 22, he contributed significantly in a crucial 59-run partnership spanning 43 balls with Gaikwad. Jamie Overton then provided late fireworks with 18 from merely six balls, adding much-needed substance to the final total.
GUJARAT TITANS-
Shubman Gill had previously mentioned receiving limited strike during the powerplay in Bengaluru. As though making amends, Sudharsan immediately rotated the strike from ball one while Gill assumed control of both the chase and the powerplay, helping GT slash 55 runs from the required total. Gill faced 22 balls for his 32 runs. The GT skipper launched one six and boundary off Akeal Hosein while capitalizing on an Overton over for 17 runs. Gill departed immediately after the field restrictions ended, brilliantly stumped by Samson off Noor Ahmad, though his explosive beginning had established a solid foundation to prevent any collapse concerns.

Following a brief consolidation phase, Sudharsan and Jos Buttler accelerated GT toward victory. Sudharsan reached his fifty in just 33 deliveries, building on his century from the previous match, while Buttler ensured GT’s somewhat fragile middle order remained unused. The duo combined for 97 runs off 60 deliveries before Sudharsan fell to an outstanding catch by Brevis, the South African redeeming himself after dropping a similarly spectacular chance earlier. The victory was completed with 20 balls remaining.
Brief scores:
Chennai Super Kings 158/7 in 20 overs [Ruturaj Gaikwad 74* (60); Kagiso Rabada 3-25] lost to Gujarat Titans 162/2 in 16.4 overs [Sai Sudharsan 87 (46), Jos Buttler 39* (30)] by 8 wickets
