Royal Challengers Bengaluru showcased a brilliant all-around performance, comfortably beating Chennai Super Kings by 43 runs at the iconic M Chinnaswamy Stadium on Sunday. This victory marked their second straight triumph in IPL 2026. The batting heroes Tim David, captain Rajat Patidar, and Devdutt Padikkal delivered spectacular performances with explosive innings, propelling RCB to a commanding total of 250 for 3 after CSK chose to bowl first.
Padikkal crafted a delightful 50 from 29 deliveries, while David dominated with a breathtaking 70 off just 25 balls. The CSK bowling attack appeared helpless against this fierce display of boundary-hitting excellence. Captain Rajat Patidar wasn’t far behind either, contributing an excellent unbeaten 48 from 19 deliveries. The destruction started with Devdutt, who anchored two vital partnerships – first scoring 56 runs off 37 balls alongside Phil Salt (46) for the second wicket, then adding 58 runs off 21 balls with captain Patidar for the third wicket. These partnerships proved crucial for RCB on a Chinnaswamy surface that offered some assistance to bowlers. During their reply, CSK managed only 207 before getting dismissed, with Sarfaraz Khan’s 50 off 25 balls being their highest individual score. ROYAL CHALLENGERS BENGALURU
The innings began unusually after CSK’s decision to field first, with both Phil Salt and Virat Kohli struggling to find their rhythm initially. The absence of boundaries in the opening three overs seemed unusual, despite both players attempting aggressive shots. Kohli survived a chance on 7 before Shivam Dube made amends at the long-on boundary. RCB managed 51 runs during the powerplay as Salt began finding his groove, though Devdutt Padikkal appeared uncomfortable early on.

Nevertheless, RCB sat comfortably at 91/1 after ten overs, and even after Salt’s departure, Patidar injected momentum before Dube’s second over disappeared to all parts of the ground. The assault intensified from that point, with Padikkal reaching his half-century before Tim David arrived and set the stadium alight, launching numerous sixes, including three consecutive ones off Noor Ahmad’s bowling.
The final five overs yielded an incredible 97 runs for RCB. Anshul Kamboj clean bowled David with a perfect yorker on leg stump, but the bowler had overstepped, allowing David to capitalize on the free hit. Patidar seemed destined for the fastest fifty by an RCB player but found himself watching from the other end as David punished Overton with a devastating 30-run 19th over.
CHENNAI SUPER KINGS
Ruturaj Gaikwad’s six in the opening over highlighted CSK’s aggressive approach to this mammoth chase. However, both Gaikwad and Sanju Samson departed cheaply with poor shot selection, while Ayush Mhatre also fell quickly. The chase effectively ended with three top-order wickets falling in the first three overs, leaving only the victory margin in question for RCB.

There were some bright moments though. Sarfaraz Khan struck a brilliant fifty within the powerplay, helping CSK accumulate 77 runs during that phase. This represented only his second IPL half-century as he displayed his complete stroke repertoire. Meanwhile, Prashant Veer, one of CSK’s expensive auction purchases, started cautiously before unleashing clean strikes off Krunal Pandya. His technique of shuffling across before dispatching the ball through mid-wicket stood out particularly. While he hasn’t bowled in two matches, his 43-run knock likely reassured CSK’s talent scouts about their investment in Ravindra Jadeja’s potential successor. Overton also connected beautifully, delivering powerful shots to complement his earlier 43 against RR this season.
