BANGLADESH-
Opting to bat after the coin landed in their favour, Bangladesh lost both their openers early. Saif Hasan fell lbw to Romario Shepherd, Soumya Sarkar caught at backward point by Jayden Seales. Towhid Hridoy and Najmul Hossain Shanto then added a watchful partnership but West Indies’ disciplined bowling held back the scoring for boundaries on an unpredictable pitch. Bangladesh managed precious little acceleration from 33/2 after 10 overs, the third-wicket pair going without a boundary for 69 deliveries until they both hit one off Gudakesh Motie. He was dismissed lbw by Khary Pierre but Najmul fell soon after.
Hridoy and Mahidul Islam Ankon attempted to rebuild, but even that partnership was slow. Hridoy got to a patient 50 from 87 balls before edging behind off Justin Greaves and Bangladesh suffered another barren run, going through another 82 deliveries without a boundary. Mahidul eventually did find the fence a couple of times, but by the 40th over Bangladesh were struggling at 140/4 and well short for a target. There were a few boundaries from Mehidy Hasan Miraz and Mahidul as well but its wickets coming in quick succession, with the score reading 168/6 after 46 overs. An 11-ball 26 with two sixes and a four by Rishad Hossain in the death overs took Bangladesh past the 200-run mark before they were all out.
WEST INDIES-
Taskin Ahmed and Tanvir Islam started with a maiden each before the openers got West Indies rolling in that chase. Brandon King scored a four and then a six off Taskin while Alick Athanaze punished Tanvir by smashing three fours and a six in an 18-run fourth over. Bangladesh then did well to apply the handbrake as West Indies, 33/0 at five overs, netted only 16 more in the following six. The opening pair added fifty, but Athanaze would soon depart lbw to Rishad. King kept punching away at the right moments, but Keacy Carty could never quite get set, he was Rishad’s second wicket with his 30-ball 9 and West Indies were 79 for two after 20.
Four down a couple of overs later with Rishad in the act again – getting rid of both King and Sherfane Rutherford in one over. He claimed his fifth with the wicket of Roston Chase, and it was the legspinner who has five-for all on-its-own scales. Mehidy then joined the party too, having Motie legged before and Tanvir had Shai Hope caught behind as West Indies slid to 118/7. Rishad then cleaned up Seales to end with seven overs, two maidens, six for 21.
