ENGLAND-
Smith and Duckett were on song at the top as they blazed away to a 120-run stand in just 53 balls. Duckett sent over Akeal Hosein in the third, cracking two fours and a six, before Smith took over against Romario Shepherd in the next, smashing him for a similar treatment of the medium pacer.
Duckett kept up the attack as he reached his half-century within the powerplay, but Smith dispatched Shepherd again, hitting three sixes in an eighth over. He was even put down later in the over, but that was not going to be too expensive a mistake as Smith could only add two runs to his tally before becoming the first wicket to fall to Gudakesh Moiter a few balls after that.
While England’s cruise control was checked slightly, the English logspitters carried the fight with boundaries coming off them at regular intervals. After some sedate overs, Bethell hit three consecutive sixes off Moite in the 17th over to take England past the 200-run mark. Harry Brook contributed to that late assault as England finished on a towering 248 for 3.
WEST INDIES-
In reply, West Indies veered off course in the chase by crashing at the top despite Evin Lewis smashing the first ball of the chase for a six. Despite the openers going back to the pavilion cheaply, West Indies’s scoring didn’t slow down. Shai Hope whacked Will Jacks for a couple of sixes in the first six balls of his stay, so did Hetmyer who tonked three in his first seven, but the English bowlers kept contributing with wickets at regular intervals, ensuring the visitors never got off to a flier. By the end of the eighth over, they had fallen to 74 for 4, and were well behind the eight-ball.
Shai Hope and Rovman Powell attempted to give the chase some momentum, and even as two more wickets came soon after, it was Powell who kept fighting a lone battle. He did his bit with an unbeaten 45-ball 79, but from the chase he never scared the hosts. Ultimately, the result saw the West Indies ended the tour winless as they were whitewashed in the ODIs earlier as well.
Brief Scores:
England 248/3 in 20 overs (Ben Duckett 84, Jamie Smith 60; Sherfane Rutherford 1-20) beat West Indies 211/8 in 20 overs (Rovman Powell 79, Shai Hope 45; Luke Wood 3-31, Adil rashid 2-30) by 37 runs.
Ben Duckett’s performance was absolutely electrifying! His 84 off 46 balls set the tone for England’s dominant win. Rovman Powell’s unbeaten 79 was a valiant effort, but it just wasn’t enough against England’s relentless attack. The West Indies seemed to struggle with consistency throughout the series, and this match was no exception. England’s batting depth and aggressive approach were simply too much to handle. It’s impressive how Harry Brook has started his captaincy with six consecutive wins. Do you think the West Indies need to rethink their strategy, or was this just a case of England being in unstoppable form?
Ben Duckett’s performance was absolutely electrifying! His 84 off just 46 balls set the tone for England’s dominant win. The partnership between Smith and Duckett was pure fire, with Duckett’s aggressive hitting leaving the West Indies bowlers scrambling. Powell’s unbeaten 79 was a gutsy effort, but it just wasn’t enough against such a strong English side. Harry Brook’s leadership seems to be working wonders—six wins in a row is no small feat.
Do you think West Indies needs to rethink their strategy, or is it just a matter of lack of execution?
