Young Saiteja Mukkamalla delivered an elegant half-century display, while left-arm spinner Harmeet Singh bowled with passion and accuracy as the United States crushed the Netherlands by 93 runs to claim their maiden victory following two losses in the T20 World Cup in Chennai on Friday. Mukkamalla’s explosive 79 from 51 deliveries, decorated with five boundaries and four maximums, along with Shubham Ranjane’s quick-fire 48 from merely 24 balls, propelled the USA to an imposing 196 for 6. Harmeet subsequently produced a magnificent bowling performance of 4 for 21, destroying the Netherlands’ batting lineup as they collapsed to 103 all out in 15.5 overs, having slumped to 66 for 5 within eight overs. Spinner Mohammad Mohsin also recorded impressive figures of 2 for 19, while South African-born fast bowler Shadley van Schalkwyk (3/21) claimed three scalps as well. UNITED STATES OF AMERICA
Put into bat, the foundation was laid by Shayan Jahangir who smashed sixes against both Aryan Dutt and Logan van Beek during the first two overs of the innings. His departure in the third over failed to dampen USA’s momentum as Monank Patel and Mukkamalla maintained the aggressive approach to reach 53/1 after the PowerPlay.
Their 55-run partnership was ended by Bas de Leede in the ninth over when Patel miscued a slower bouncer to wicketkeeper Scott Edwards. The relief proved temporary however, as Mukkamalla unleashed two boundaries in each of the next two overs before completing a 30-ball half-century with a six in the 12th over.
After Sanjay Krishnamurthi got out in the 11th over, we are seeing Mukkamalla and Ranjane making another fifty-run partnership only. After actually losing runs from both sides, the Dutch team definitely fought back by getting Mukkamalla out in the 17th over. As per Ranjane’s late hitting with three fours and two sixes, USA reached 196 runs.
NETHERLANDS-
Netherlands’ chase actually went wrong very early when Nosthush Kenjige, who was back in USA’s team, definitely got Michael Levitt out in the second over. Bas de Leede hit a four and six in Kenjige’s next over but did not get help from other batsmen as per the team’s needs. Regarding the batting performance, Max O’Dowd and Colin Ackermann got out in back-to-back overs. The Netherlands surely finished the PowerPlay at 51 runs for 3 wickets. Moreover, this left them in a challenging position after the initial overs.
Basically, after De Leede got out in the seventh over, Netherlands faced the same problem of scoring quickly without losing more wickets. Zach Lion-Cachet could not do much and when Scott Edwards got out at the end of the tenth over, Netherlands was only 75/6, so we are seeing the match going in only one way.
With the match already lost, we are seeing that the other Netherlands batsmen gave only little fight and the team got all out for 103 runs in the 16th over. Basically, Harmeet Singh took 4 wickets for 21 runs and Shadley van Schalkwyk got 3 wickets the same way. We are seeing that leg-spinner Mohammad Mohsin also took only two wickets to help his team. As per the match results, this was USA’s first win in this competition and their first victory over Netherlands regarding T20I matches.
Brief Scores:
As per the match results, USA scored 196-6 in 20 overs with Saiteja Mukkamalla making 79 runs and Shubham Ranjane remaining not out at 48, while Bas de Leede took 3 wickets for 37 runs.
