3RD T20I, WEST INDIES Vs AUSTRALIA , ST KITTS, 2025 HIGHLIGHTS : Tim David’s Unstoppable Century Sealed T20I Series Against West Indies .
Tim David smashed a 37-ball century and Australia beat the West Indies by six wickets Friday to secure T20I series. David hammered 11 sixes and six fours to complete his ton from just 37 balls as the Aussies reached 215 to win with 23 balls to spare. Australia gained an unassailable 3-0 lead in the five-match series, which concludes on Saturday with a third night game at Warner Park. David pummelled 50 from 16 balls, the quickest by an Australian man, and he put together the highest Aussie T20I fifth-wicket partnership in history installed with Mitchell Owen. David now has the distinction of becoming the fastest T20I centurion of Australia, overtaking Josh Inglis, who reached his ton in 43 balls. David and Owen, who ended with 36 from 16 balls, added 128, breaking the previous fifth wicket best of 105 set between David and Mitch Marsh. He got there with the first ball of the 17th over and the last of the match, whacking Romario Shepherd away for four to bring up 102 and win the game, the Aussies posting 4-215. WEST INDIES-
It was an unusual position of rare merit for West Indies in a series that has been defined by repeated humbling. An opening partnership of 125 from just 11.4 overs between King and Hope at least gave West Indies a glimmer of hope of trying to keep the series alive. Between them they clobbered 12 sixes at a strike rate of more than 170.
Hosts Hope and Brandon King shared a 125-run opening stand before King was dismissed off the fourth ball of the 12th over. Mitch Owen offered and King smote high and Sean Abbott hauled it in for the first out. King posted his 13th T20I half century scored 62 off 36 balls with six sixes and three fours. Hope then went to deep point off the first ball of the penultimate over, for one, to bring up his first T20I century from 55 balls and make 100, joining Chris Gayle as the only West Indies men with hundreds in all formats.
West Indies did not put a foot wrong or allow their high-scoring momentum to wane even after the opening stand was broken. Shimron Hetmyer (7)and Sherfane Rutherford (2) flattered briefly, but Hope kept his foot down as West Indies plundered 49 from the last 20 delivering to secure a total in excess of 200. It fell well, well short on the night as it happened.
AUSTRALIA-
West Indies tried to squeeze Australia with spin through the middle as Cameron Green hit the brakes a little. But David did his bit to keep Australia’s scoring rate around and above 10-an-over. Shepherd finished Green’s misery – 11 from 14 – in the ninth over – but went on to set up the match-winning stand between David and Mitchell. Immediately following Green’s dismissal, David counter attacked by clobbering four consecutive sixes in a 28-run 10th over from Gudakesh Motie that lifted Australia to 120/4 at the half way mark.
A drinks break had allowed West Indies a moment to catch their breath but straight after, David became Australia’s quickest T20I half-centurion – reaching the mark in 16 balls with a boundary. The sixes on either side of that four were part of another 20-run over that accelerated the chase further. Hope threw the ball to Roston Chase in a desperate bid to stop the carnage, but David simply wasn’t going to be stopped. He clobbered the spinner for three sixes and a four in the 23-run over. Blades came on and bowled an untidy over that conceded only five runs but Shepherd could not replicate the effort in the subsequent over. David and Owen struck him for a six apiece – and to make matters worse, Brandon King let a chance go begging at mid-wicket that would have dismissed David.
The 100 came up for the pair in the 15th over and Owen’s contribution to the stand was only 18. They targeted Blades in the next over to reduce their target to four with as many overs remaining to win. David struck a leg-side delivery through midwicket on the first ball of the 17th over to seal a win and fastest T20I hundred for an Australian (37 balls).
