AUSTRALIA-
After choosing to bowl first, India made an immediate impact as Arshdeep, replacing Harshit Rana, caught Travis Head miscuing to mid-off during the first over. The left-arm bowler delivered another blow in his subsequent over, removing Josh Inglis who top-edged an attempted pull shot. David, batting at number four, began confidently with a boundary against Jasprit Bumrah, then followed with a four and six against Varun Chakaravarthy. He received a lifeline when Sundar dropped a catch at backward point during Bumrah’s over, leaving Australia at 43 for 2 after the powerplay.
David accelerated during the middle phase, smashing two sixes against Axar in the seventh over before hammering three boundaries off Shivam Dube to complete a rapid 23-ball fifty. Australia soon lost momentum as Varun removed Marsh and Owen in consecutive balls. Stoinis countered with a four off Axar, taking Australia to 84 for 4 at the halfway mark. David’s aggressive approach persisted with two additional sixes off Varun in the 11th over, while Stoinis launched a pair of sixes against Dube. Their 45-run partnership ended when David found long-off, giving Dube his maiden wicket. Stoinis contributed two more boundaries to push Australia to 130 for 5 after 15 overs.
India brought in Abhishek during the 16th over, but Short immediately punished him with a six and four. The following over saw both Short and Stoinis finding the boundary rope against Dube’s bowling. Arshdeep’s 18th over proved costly, leaking 18 runs as Stoinis hammered three consecutive fours to reach his half-century off just 32 balls. Bumrah delivered a controlled 19th over, allowing only six runs to complete his spell with figures of 0-26 from four overs. In the final over, Arshdeep conceded 10 runs but managed to remove Stoinis after the batsman had struck another four. Australia accumulated 102 runs in their second ten overs yet couldn’t reach the 190-run target they were aiming for.
INDIA-
Abhishek Sharma provided India with an aggressive start to their chase, launching a powerful six over point against Xavier Bartlett before targeting Sean Abbott – who replaced Josh Hazlewood – striking two fours and a six in the second over. Bartlett bounced back with a controlled third over and contributed to Abhishek’s downfall, as the left-handed opener top-edged a pull shot off Nathan Ellis, departing for 25 from 16 balls with Bartlett taking an excellent catch. Suryakumar Yadav’s maximums against Ellis and Abbott pushed India beyond the fifty-run mark, but Shubman Gill departed in the sixth over – given out lbw by Ellis for 15 after hitting one boundary – leaving India at 64 for 2 at the end of the powerplay.
Suryakumar’s innings concluded on 24 when he chipped a simple catch to cover, handing Stoinis his first wicket. Tilak Varma’s aggressive beginning – featuring a six off Matthew Short – combined with Axar Patel’s boundary against Bartlett pushed India to 105 for 3 after ten overs. Ellis struck once more to break the partnership, removing Axar for 17 and claiming his third scalp. Washington Sundar, who came in for Kuldeep Yadav, made an immediate impression with a six off Ellis followed by a four against Matthew Kuhnemann. He particularly enjoyed facing Abbott, launching a four and two sixes during the 14th over. Bartlett returned to dismiss Tilak, who spooned a catch to the keeper, while Jitesh Sharma – India’s third substitution, replacing Sanju Samson – found the boundary to guide India to 152 for 5 after 15 overs.
Requiring 35 runs from the final five overs, Jitesh played a smart scoop shot off Ellis in the 16th over for his second four. Washington then watched as Stoinis deflected the ball over the rope for six, reducing India’s target to 16 runs from 18 deliveries. Jitesh received a fortunate reprieve when Mitch Owen dropped a catch off Stoinis, and in that same over, Washington added another boundary. With Washington on 49, Jitesh sealed the victory with a four in the 19th over off Abbott as India cruised to a convincing win.
