WEST INDIES-

ATHANAZE & HOPEAfter choosing to bat first, the West Indies faced an early setback when Brandon King departed after hitting a simple catch to mid-on during the second over. What followed was an outstanding 105-run partnership between Hope and Athanaze, with Athanaze getting a lucky break when Towhid Hridoy dropped a challenging catch at mid-on in the third over. The West Indian duo consistently found the boundary and guided their team to 50/1 when the PowerPlay ended.

The momentum continued as their partnership flourished beautifully. Athanaze looked especially confident against the spin bowlers, launching two sixes off Rishad Hossain and adding another maximum off Nasum Ahmed to reach his second T20I half-century. Hope wasn’t far behind, completing his own fifty in the next over.

Nasum Ahmed fought back though, getting both the established Athanaze and Sherfane Rutherford out on back-to-back balls in the 12th over. The visiting team faced another major blow when Hope got out in the next over. What followed was a dramatic downfall as they lost two additional wickets in the 15th over, crashing from 106/1 to 118/6. Bangladesh seized control by limiting scoring opportunities, and the West Indies’ innings ended poorly with three wickets falling in the final over.

BANGLADESH

Bangladesh’s chase began carefully, getting an early break when Saif Hassan offered a chance that King failed to take in the second over. Hassan’s time at the wicket was short-lived as Jason Holder got him out in the fourth over. Litton Das came in next and made an immediate impact, hitting three boundaries off Jayden Seales. Continuing a pattern that would persist, the West Indies missed another opportunity when Rutherford dropped Litton in the sixth over.

Right after being hit for a six, Akeal Hosein got Litton out. The West Indies dropped their third catch in the 11th over when Seales let Hridoy slip through his fingers. During this time, Tanzid Hasan Tamim built his innings steadily, finding the occasional boundary and keeping the scoreboard ticking. Although the Windies managed to dismiss Hridoy in the 13th over, they dropped yet another catch – this one by Athanaze in the 14th.

Bangladesh stayed competitive at 100/3 after 15 overs, but two scoreless overs increased the pressure. This led to the well-settled Tanzid Hasan (61) and Jaker Ali both getting out in the 18th over as Bangladesh’s chase began to crumble. Their situation worsened when Shamim Hossain departed in the 19th, and needing 21 runs from the last over, they managed only six runs while losing two more wickets.

Brief Scores:

West Indies 149/9 in 20 overs (Shai Hope 55, Alick Athanaze 52; Mustafizur Rahman 3-21) defeated Bangladesh 135/8 in 20 overs (Tanzid Hasan Tamim 61, Litton Das 23; Akeal Hosein 3-22, Romario Shepherd 3-29) by 14 runs.
